The first major impacts were reported in the northern provinces of Golestan and Mazandaran, followed by serious flooding in Lorestan, <a href=\"https:\/\/surfiran.com\/mag\/khuzestan-travel-guide\/\">Khuzestan<\/a> and other areas. On 15 April 2019, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifrc.org\/press-release\/iran-floods-two-million-people-need-humanitarian-aid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies<\/a> estimated that two million people needed humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Flooding also struck <a href=\"https:\/\/surfiran.com\/mag\/shiraz-travel-guide\/\">Shiraz<\/a> on 25 March 2019, including roads near the historic <a href=\"https:\/\/surfiran.com\/mag\/shiraz-travel-guide\/quran-gate-darvazeh-e-quran\/\">Quran Gate<\/a>. Contemporary reporting described vehicles swept into floodwater. Conditions varied sharply by province and locality, so statements made during that disaster should not be used to assess a journey today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"flood-safety-what-travelers-should-do\"><\/span>Flood safety: what travelers should do<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check official local weather alerts and road closures before moving between destinations, particularly in the rainy season. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/foreign-travel-advice\/iran\/safety-and-security\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">UK FCDO travel guidance<\/a> identifies spring flooding as a risk in provinces including Khuzestan, Golestan and Lorestan. As checked on <strong>27 October 2026<\/strong>, the FCDO advises against all travel to Iran. Advice from other governments may differ; always consult the authority relevant to your nationality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Never walk, swim or drive through floodwater, even if it looks shallow.<\/li>\n\n<li>Stay away from riverbeds, drainage channels and bridges over fast-moving water.<\/li>\n\n<li>Follow local emergency instructions and check road conditions before departure.<\/li>\n\n<li>If flooding threatens your route, postpone the journey rather than attempting to cross.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These general precautions follow <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ready.gov\/floods\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ready.gov flood safety guidance<\/a>.
