The agreement offered sanctions relief in exchange for limits on Iran&#8217;s nuclear program, creating expectations of easier commercial engagement and renewed interest in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the time, Iranian tourism officials discussed longer tourist visas, electronic visa plans and new hotel investment. Those announcements reflected the optimism of 2015 and 2016. They are historical context, not current travel guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cultural-heritage-as-a-tourism-strength\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"cultural-heritage-as-a-tourism-strength\"><\/span>Cultural heritage as a tourism strength<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iran&#8217;s archaeological sites, historic cities, religious architecture, gardens and cultural landscapes were central to the tourism case then and remain important to understanding the country&#8217;s heritage. Persepolis, Pasargadae, Tchogha Zanbil, Shahr-i Sokhta and Meidan Emam in Isfahan are among the places inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The number of UNESCO-listed properties has changed substantially since this article was first published. The United States withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018, and the sanctions environment changed again in subsequent years.
