Pezhmann Dailami\u2019s account in <em>Encyclopaedia Iranica<\/em> places the beginning of Jangali activity in Gilan in late summer 1915, after Mirza returned to the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The movement\u2019s history includes changing alliances and tensions, rather than one uninterrupted political programme. Dailami distinguishes the early forest-based movement from the later Soviet Republic of Gilan, established in June 1920.
