The project formed part of the celebrations marking 2,500 years of Persian monarchy and was completed in 1971. Its interwoven curves and arches reinterpret forms associated with pre-Islamic and Islamic Iranian architecture without directly copying a single historic building. The surrounding plaza uses landscaping and fountains inspired by the geometry of Persian gardens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The complex geometry was technically ambitious for its time. It was designed to display objects and exhibitions related to Persian civilization, with the main exhibition space directly below the tower. The square itself is easy to recognize, but crossing the surrounding roads on foot can be inconvenient.
