Though today, weddings are typically a <strong>one-day event<\/strong>, in the past, they would last up to three days and nights. Below, we explore the <strong>engagement<\/strong> and <strong>wedding traditions<\/strong> among the Kurmanj of Khorasan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-engagement-rituals-and-shirini-khoran\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"engagement-rituals-and-shirini-khoran\"><\/span>Engagement Rituals and Shirini Khoran<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nomadic life<\/strong> by the mountains and rivers has given the Kurmanj people a pure and simple intimacy. In this nature-bound life, two <strong>young Kurmanj<\/strong> often develop a profound love for each other. Marriages are usually <strong>within the tribe<\/strong>, and emotions are expressed with simplicity yet passion. The formal <strong>engagement proposal<\/strong> involves the elders of both families. Women from the groom&#8217;s family visit the bride&#8217;s home to seek the family&#8217;s approval. Following this, a <strong>family dinner<\/strong> is arranged where the elders discuss the <strong>wedding ceremony<\/strong> details, including the <strong>dowry<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-shirini-khoran-celebrating-engagement\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"shirini-khoran-celebrating-engagement\"><\/span>Shirini Khoran: Celebrating Engagement<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the families agree, the <strong>Shirini Khoran<\/strong> ceremony takes place. This is when the woman&#8217;s family accepts the proposal and provides an <strong>engagement sweet tray<\/strong> to the groom&#8217;s family. It\u2019s a joyful event where sweets are shared with relatives, similar to <strong>bonbonniere traditions<\/strong>. <strong>Sweets and chocolates<\/strong> are placed in a <strong>red cloth<\/strong> and delivered to invite the guests. During this event, the <strong>Sorna<\/strong> and <strong>Dhol<\/strong> play, and the <strong>Kurmanji dance<\/strong> begins. After this ritual, the bride takes on her role in the household, symbolized by <strong>holding a ladle<\/strong>, marking the start of a simple life together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This ceremony, rich in details, reflects the <strong>values<\/strong> and <strong>deep beliefs<\/strong> of the Kurmanj people. From their nomadic warmth to their respect for <strong>ancient traditions<\/strong>, each aspect of this ceremony is deeply intertwined with the cultural identity of this community. <strong>Kurmanj
