Shortly after, Iran\u2019s first cinema, &#8220;<strong>Cinema Soleil<\/strong>,&#8221; opened in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/surfiran.com\/mag\/tabriz-travel-guide\/\">Tabriz<\/a><\/strong>, and public screenings started in <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/surfiran.com\/mag\/tehran-travel-guide\/\">Tehran<\/a><\/strong> in <strong>1904<\/strong>. Before that, most movies were rather melodramatic, following the style of <strong>classical Persian theater<\/strong>. But the New Wave introduced <strong>social realism<\/strong>, bold techniques, and a focus on the complexities of modern life which was revolutionary for the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The movement started with the <em><strong>Serpent\u2019s Skin<\/strong><\/em> directed in <strong>1964<\/strong> by <strong>Hajir Darioush<\/strong> and became immensely popular with <em><strong>The Cow<\/strong><\/em>, one of Iranian cinema\u2019s classics, directed by <strong>Darius Mehrjui<\/strong> in <strong>1969<\/strong>. The movie tells the story of a middle-aged farmer\u2019s emotional bond with his cow, which is his most valuable property.
