Iran&#8217;s official tourism portal records the first known memorial over his grave in 1452. Karim Khan Zand later commissioned a new memorial in the 18th century. The complex took much of its present form in the 1930s, when French architect and archaeologist Andr\u00e9 Godard designed the modern pavilion while retaining four stone columns from the Zand-period structure.<\/p>\n<p>The result is a layered monument rather than a building from a single period. Decorative tilework on the underside of the dome creates one of Hafezieh&#8217;s most recognizable views.
