Niavaran Complex: A Royal Persian Legacy

Where History and Beauty Converge

Niavaran Palace Complex is an 11-hectare historic garden and museum complex in northern Tehran. Its buildings span the Qajar and Pahlavi periods, making the site useful for understanding how royal architecture and domestic life changed from the 19th to the 20th century.

History of Niavaran Complex

The site began as a Qajar royal summer retreat. Fath-Ali Shah ordered a garden residence in the Niavaran area, and later rulers added new buildings. Naser al-Din Shah commissioned Sahebqaraniyeh Palace, while the Ahmad Shahi Pavilion was built late in the Qajar period. During the reign of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the modern Niavaran Palace became a residence for the royal family.
