I am writing from the UK and am very interested in the 2-10-2 steam locomotive which stands outside your station. This was one of 64 locomotives Possibly the first) of this type built here by Vulcan Foundry between 1952 and 1954. Do you have any information as to when it entered service (1952?) was last operated, and withdrawn, and the number of kilometres it covered? An article in the British Railway Magazine for January 1963 recorded that only 3 of these engines were still active as early as 1961, so they must have enjoyed unusually short lives, no doubt displaced by American diesels on the Trans Iranian Route. Do any photographs of these engines in actual operation in Iran still exist?
I have a special interest in the former British locomotive industry, of which this comprised one of the last really large orders for steam locomotives that it received (in 1950, when it built 573 stream locomotives, but only 2 ten years later!)
