Discover Meshgin Shahr Suspension Bridge: Middle East’s Tallest Wonder

The location of Meshgin Shahr
Meshgin Shahr is located in the north-west of Iran which is the nearest city to the Sabalan high mountain, and Sabalan’s summit can be seen from the southern part of the city with an eye-catching scenery. The city is 839 kilometers (521 mi) from Tehran, and it is well-known for its hot mineral water springs, such as Moil, Qaynarja, Ilando, Shabil, and Qotur suyu springs.
There are a number of spa complexes in this region. Meshgin Shahr is one of the main stops for tourists to have a visit to the dramatic Sabalan Mountains. The city itself also has numerous tourist attractions, including a castle, petrographs, and the tomb of Sheikh Heydar.
The Suspension Bridge of Meshgin Shahr
The bridge stands over Khiyo Chaei River in Meshgin Shahr. The bridge enables tourists to view the beautiful scenery of Sabalan slopes from a height of 80 meters.
With two meters wide, and 365 meters long (symbolic of the calendar days in a year), Meshgin Shahr Suspension Bridge is thought to be the tallest of its kind in the Middle East. The unveiling of this bridge took place in a spring festival on May 16th, 2015.
At this height, visitors have the opportunity to catch not only a breathtaking view of the surrounding Sabalan Mountains, a dormant volcano whose crater freezes into a lake but also the Khiyo Chaei River which it hovers over.
The bridge’s namesake town, Meshkinshahr, has great potential for tourism and plans are already underway to develop a tourist town that comprises hotels, spas, and entertainment.
Hot springs around this area, one of the most recognized of which is Shabeel, famous for its giant orange lilies, make it a fantastic destination to unlock natural spa and wellness tourism opportunities. Hikers on their way to reach the Sabalan Mountains also frequently make their starting point from this town.
The Khiyo Resort near the Suspension Bridge
The Khiyo resort which has been promised to be immediately built around the bridge covers an area equal to 1300 hectares and is the most major tourism project in Ardabil province.
