SURFIRAN Reviews
Is Iraq safe to visit on a guided tour?
The short answer is yes, We plan risk-aware routes, work with vetted partners, and monitor conditions daily. We avoid restricted areas, brief you clearly, and recommend travel insurance.
When is the best time to visit Iraq?
Travel in spring (Mar–May) and autumn (Sep–Nov) for pleasant weather. Summers are very hot; winters are cooler, with snow in the north.
Do I need a visa to travel to Iraq as a tourist?
Yes, most travelers need a visa to visit Iraq as a tourist. Since March 1, 2025, Iraq has suspended its visa-on-arrival program for most nationalities, requiring tourists to apply for an electronic visa (e-Visa) through the official Iraqi government portal at least 24 hours before travel. The e-Visa costs $160 and is valid for a 60-day single-entry stay, allowing a maximum stay of 30 days for tourism purposes. You must have a passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry and a confirmed return or onward ticket.
For the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI), you can apply for a separate e-Visa via the Kurdistan Regional Government’s portal or, for some nationalities, obtain a visa on arrival at Erbil or Sulaymaniyah airports, valid for 30 days and extendable up to 90 days. This visa is only for KRI and not valid for other parts of Iraq. Citizens of certain countries may require a guarantor (a local sponsor registered with the Ministry of Interior) to apply for the e-Visa.
How big are your groups?
Our small-group tours host a maximum of 12 guests. You can also book a private or tailor-made trip.
What accommodation do you use?
We book handpicked, well-located hotels (typically 3–4★ or best available). Ask us about room upgrades.
Are your guides licensed and English-speaking?
Yes. Our licensed local guides speak English and share cultural context, etiquette, and current insights.
What should I wear? Any cultural guidelines?
Dress modestly—cover shoulders and knees. Women should carry a scarf for shrine visits. Remove shoes where required and ask before photographing people.
How do we travel between sites?
We use air‑conditioned vehicles with professional drivers. We balance daily mileage for comfort and include domestic flights when sensible.
